Currently, Helana is an interdisciplinary scholar and an anthropologist-in-training with a desire to specifically situate her work within health, cultural and sensory anthropology. Outside of her thesis and Coptic community work, Helana holds two research positions – at Wilfrid Laurier University and ICES seconded to the Métis Nation of Ontario – where she does work pertaining to the health of Black older adults and Métis health and wellness. In her capacity working these positions, Helana possesses strong inter-qualitative research and community engagement experience. Moreover, the diverse array of projects that Helana is leading/assisting in has made interdisciplinarity a salient asset in the way she approaches research.
